VRDC EVENTS 2022 NYC Primaries: The 2022 Primary Season is underway. Voting for New York State offices is June 28th, with Early Voting from June 18th to June 26th, 2022. PAST EVENTS 2022 Free Document Shred Event:
The VRDC co-sponsored a free paper shred on Saturday, June 4th, 2022 from 1-4pm in front of the Morton Williams supermarket at 130 Bleecker Street. More than 100 people attended, bringing their sensitive papers to be securely shredded. 2021 The 2021 Democratic Primaries were June 22nd, with Early Voting from June 12 to June 20th. VRDC members were out supporting our club's endorsed candidates, with good results in key races that affect our local neighborhoods. The pandemic has raised questions about in-person voting, and concerns about absentee/mailed-in ballots being disqualified or uncounted as some were in the Primary. Two local New York State Committee Members will present the best ways to safely vote to make sure your vote COUNTS this year. They'll offer advice and answer questions about this year's General Election and provide the most up-to-date information on topics such as:
- options to safely vote without risking exposure to COVID-19: where, when and how
- how to obtain an absentee ballot and whether you can later switch to voting in person
- timing and deadlines - both the official ones and the important unofficial ones to avoid USPS delays
- how to make sure your ballot is valid and counted
- and more
Moderator: Alix KuckerAlix Fredrika Kucker has been an attorney in New York City since 1987. Alix retired from the Queens County District Attorney's Office in 2015, after 28 years as a prosecuting attorney. She served the majority of her career as Senior A.D.A. and Supervisor in charge of Extraditions & Consular Notifications in the Grand Jury Bureau. An active member of the Village Reform Democratic Club, Alix has been an elected Judicial Delegate or Alternate several times over the past five years.
Panelist: Christopher MarteChristopher Marte is the New York State Committeeman of the 65th Assembly District. He ran for City Council in 2017 and fell short by just 200 votes. Since then, he has worked at Arena, training new generations of candidates and campaign staff across the country. Locally, Christopher is the co-founder of Neighbors United Below Canal. Previously, he worked for IBM's retirement fund as an investment analyst. He also served on the young professional board of Defy Ventures and co-founded two community gardens on NYCHA property.
Panelist: Benjamin YeeBen Yee is a local activist and reformer. He served on the Obama Campaign in 2008, has been a local and national leader in the Young Democrats, and has served as Secretary of the Manhattan Democratic Party. As State Committee member for AD66, he has successfully passed multiple resolutions to reform the Democratic Party rules and improve its functioning. Ben is also a co-founder of You Matter Nation and has personally trained thousands of New Yorkers in how to organize and use party politics to effect real change for communities since 2017.
